Victory at Oschersleben, September 23-24!
A roundup of pictures from our experience in the pits and on the track.
The German race weekend kicks off on Friday with the Club Challenge taking center stage. Viktor Schiffer is on the hunt for crucial points to climb back up the leaderboard after an unfortunate round in Most. As the track is unfamiliar to all the teams, both the first and second sessions see a high turnout, making it challenging to find clear markers due to the heavy track traffic. However, the Mustang #27 handles well, and Schiffer quickly acclimates to the German tarmac. It's only in the third session that the Club Challenge drivers have the track to themselves. Despite the car being in prime condition and reduced traffic, Viktor struggles to maintain a steady pace, finishing his run in sixth place with some lingering regrets.
After the promising third-place finish at Most, Schober aims to keep the positive momentum going. The overall Top-5 is within reach, but achieving consistent results is crucial. Saturday morning's qualifications go well, with Patrick set to start Race 1 from the seventh position.
Race 1 poses uncertainties: Oschersleben is known for its limited overtaking spots and a high likelihood of collisions. Schober opts for a cautious start and loses a spot in the opening curve to avoid contact. However, the Ford Mustang #27 showcases excellent speed and immediately begins to climb back. By the third lap, he overtakes Benedetti and engages in an intriguing duel with De Groot, managing to outpace him with a decisive move on the seventh lap. Benefiting from an issue with the #50, Patrick surpasses Linster on lap 13, finishing the race in fifth place.
Race 2 has already made its mark in EuroNASCAR history: Starting from the fifth position, Schober brilliantly capitalizes on a collision between Naska and Linster during the second lap, moving up to third place, right behind Cappelli and Linster. It doesn't take long before Patrick overtakes the Italian driver of the #18, determinedly chasing the lead. On the ninth lap, his masterstroke is delivered: Patrick executes a daring overtake on Linster's #50, rightfully taking the race lead and establishing a significant gap from the rest. In the subsequent laps, despite a safety car intervention that tightens the pack, Schober confidently retains the top spot and secures his first win in EN2.
